Fun ways to beat the summer heat
The dog days of summer may be winding down, but the temperatures continue to climb. COVID restrictions are loosening, which means we have more opportunities to enjoy the heat. However, sometimes the sizzle can be too hot to handle. Instead of hiding inside your air-conditioned home, why not find fun and creative ways to beat the heat. Embrace the summer now while you still can because the sizzling heat will be replaced by stifling cold in a few months. Lucky for you, there is no shortage of chill activities to help you get the most out of the season. Here’s a list of life hacks you can do on your own or engaging activities to do as a family.
List of Activities to beat Summer
DIY Misty Spray
How do you cool down the yard if you don't have a sprinkler? You make one yourself. Grab a two-litre plastic bottle. Then, poke between 6-8 holes in the bottle (make sure the bottle is empty before poking the holes). Finally, screw the mouth of the bottle to a hose with a ¾ inch adapter. Secure the hose and bottle with plumber's tape, and let the games begin. Turn the hose on and enjoy the mist. Keep the pressure on low for a comfortable drizzle you can enjoy while reading, or turn the pressure up for some real fun.
Water Balloon Fun
This activity is an all-time classic. Absolutely nothing is more fun than catching an unsuspecting victim with a balloon full of water. Remember those days when you had to fill water balloons one at a time? Brutal right? No need to worry. There are plenty of brilliant inventions that will help you fill multiple water balloons at a time. Of course, throwing water balloons at each other is fun, but you can play various games. Perhaps a variation of hot potato or some water balloon baseball.
Frozen T-Shirt Race
If you are looking for a quirky game to play, then this one takes the prize. Fair warning, play with old t-shirts. The objective is simple, put on your shirt and run. . The problem? —the shirts are frozen. Prepare the shirts by soaking them in water, wrapping them in wax paper, and placing them into a freezer until completely frozen. Once they are stiff, the game can commence. The first person to put the frozen shirt on and race to the finish line wins the game. Frozen t-shirt races are perfect for those sizzling hot days.
Icey-ology
Another quirky activity that the kids will absolutely love. For this game, the kids get to use their imagination and pretend to be archeologists. Start by freezing some of your kids' toys in a block of ice. Purchase a few child-friendly excavation tools and let the kids dig for treasure. Another fun element to add to the game is using food colouring to change the colour of the ice.
Fruity Ice Cubes
Who says cool summer games can't be tasty? This activity is straightforward and can be done with fruits in the house. Simply add berries such as strawberries, blueberries or raspberries in an ice cube tray, then add water, soda or your favourite juice. Once frozen, put the ice trays in the freezer and add the fruit cubes to your favourite drink. If you’re looking for more inspiration, Check the article Ways to Beat Summer.
